AFFILIATED MINISTRIES
Rebuilding continues by THE RIVER
by C. L. Stumb. editor
Signs of spring are breaking ground at Johns River Valley Camp. Waters of an historic Helene Hurricane flood that twisted steel I-beams on the camp bridge flowed with grace over a stand of tiger lilies on the upstream bank adjacent to the new bridge. Those day lilies — in a budding cluster of greenness — are announcing a new day at this camp.
In like fashion, students from Catawba College turned their focus — on spring break week — to the camp’s rebuilding focus. Their youthful spirits also signal hope for this Outdoor Ministry space, by the river’s edge, at a place that has nurtured the young, young at heart, and seeded calls for discernment toward ministry over nearly 90 years.
The new director, Kevin Russell, has two workdays on the camp calendar, geared toward unraveling some of the ruins of the hurricane, removing tarps from damaged roofs, and restoring enough of the camp buildings to accommodate a Mother’s/Women’s retreat and a busy summer camp schedule. Download flyer with that schedule HERE and see a reference below under “Voices of Outdoor Ministry.”
