Eastern Virginia Association
EVA Associate Conference Minister
Rev Dr. John Myers
The Tidewater/Hampton Roads Region of Virginia — from Petersburg to Virginia Beach to the state line — has borne witness to some of the most important moments in American history. Today, the area is home to a large US Navy presence, bases representing every branch of military service, and 40 UCC congregations. We want churches to send in their special programming dates to their Association so that it can be added to the Association and Conference Calendar.

Let the Little Children Come to Me: Empowering the NOW
Written By: Rev. Hugo J. Morrison
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Eastern Virginia Association of the Southern Conference, United Church of Christ, held its 55th Annual Gathering at Lynnhaven Colony Congregational UCC in Virginia Beach. The event, centered around the theme “Let the Little Children Come to Me and Do Not Hinder Them,” brought together church leaders, members, and youth to focus on the spiritual and communal growth of the current generation.
The association also took a moment to recognize, reflect, and release from duty the dedicated service of Rev. John Myers (D.Min.), who announced his retirement. His passion, purpose, and perseverance have left an indelible mark on the association. "As we move forward, we honor his contributions and continue our commitment to our collective ministry, always remembering that we are stronger together."
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to youth empowerment, underscoring the vision of the Southern Conference Minister & Board of Directors to engage, equip, and empower the younger generation for ministry. Youth-led presentations were a central feature, with performances from Victory Christian UCC’s praise dancers and an unforgettable keynote address from Master Kolin Lawrence, who preached a powerful message on leadership and faith, using the theme G.O.A.T—The Greatest of All Time. His words left a lasting impact on all who attended. Artistic contributions from Cayden Riddick, Aniyah Copeland, Amiyah Jones, Ashley Moore, the Anointed 7, Kacey, Kaylee, and others further enriched the spirit of the day.
This year’s Annual Gathering served as a powerful reminder of the strength of community, faith, and action in building a brighter future, particularly for the youth.
