The Rev. Dr. John Myers

Reverend Dr. John T. Myers is currently serving as the Associate Conference Minister and Justice Minister for the Eastern Virginia Association of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ since 2012. He is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and currently resides in Chesapeake, Virginia with his wife of 38 years, Angela.  They have three sons and four grandchildren. Some of his other activities include the following: Founder and CEO of Fruit of the Spirit, LLC, Bethany Fellows (Disciples of Christ) Congregations Leadership Team member, Past President of the Virginia Council of Churches Richmond, Virginia.  Former Pastor, Corinth Chapel United Church of Christ in Suffolk, Virginia and Council of Elders, Franklinton Center at Bricks.  He also serves as a member of the Staff and Board of Directors of the Southern Conference. Additionally, he was recently elected to the Board of Tidewater Pastoral Counseling Services. He has been a Toastmaster since 2015 holding the offices of Club President, Vice President, and Area Director for District 66 earning various awards for leadership.

     As the Association Conference Minister of the Eastern Virginia Association, his responsibilities are to be a “pastor to the pastors of churches”, build relationships in and outside of the association and be the conference liaison.  Additionally, as the conference Justice Minister. He represents the Southern Conference in matters of Justice and develops programs and projects that fight for Racial, Economic and Social Justice. His educational accomplishments include the following:  Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics from San Diego State University, Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from Troy State University, Master of Divinity Degree in Theology from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University and Doctor of Ministry degree from Chicago Theological Seminary. 

     Finally, he is a 21-year veteran of the United States Navy serving as a Surface Warfare Officer, retiring in October of 2004 attaining the rank of full Commander.  He acknowledged his call to the ministry in October 2003, when he preached his initial sermon at the historic Providence United Church of Christ in Chesapeake, Virginia. His life’s mission and ministry is to empower Christian believers to exercise their spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit in order to be instruments of service of God going into all the world performing ministries of outreach, reconciliation and healing as God has ordained.   In Isaiah 6:8, the Lord asks, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”  Dr. Myers has answered the call, “Here am I Lord, send me.”
